Do we need to change many Parents’ Day Quotes for Gay Parents?
June 30, 2011
There are a number of Parent’s day quotes for parents’ day that address mother and father at the same time. For example:
• “A mother and a father are the bones on which children cut their teeth.”
• “Definition of Father’s Day: Same as Mother’s Day but you don’t spend as much.”
• “No matter what, Dad was always there with solid words of advice . . . “Go ask your mother.”
• “There are three books my daughter felt were the most important influences in her life: the Bible, her mother’s cookbook, and her father’s checkbook.”
• “My mother phones daily to ask, “Did you just try to reach me?” When I reply no, she adds, “So, if you’re not too busy, call me while I’m still alive,” . . . and hangs up.”

In all the above Parents’ day quotes you will find that mother and father both are addressed or talk about. But now that we have an increasing number of gay parents – who might also receive parents day greetings and parent’s day cards with Parents’ day quotation on them – do we need to change many of the parents’ day quotes for them? Do we need to look for new gay parents’ day quotes, as kids will find them wrong to state them in the cards or parents day presents.

Is it gay parent’s day or biological parent’s day?
June 30, 2011
Soon it is going to be parent’s day. It seems there will be a bit of confusion this time on parents day because it is expected that kids in general and people in particular may ask, if it is biological parents day or gay parents day.

On mother’s day kids thank their mothers for giving them birth while on father’s day they thank the fathers for being part of their life and giving them all the comforts in life. And last but not the least on Parents day we celebrate the day as we want to thank our parents who lived together and sorted out their issues for us – their kids.
After the same sex marriages law passed in NY it is certain that the community will also celebrate parents day but will this work for them or not? The community has been adopting children in order to make a family complete. But will this question not rise that the children will look for their biological parents on parents’ day. So this does create confusion!
Secondly, parents’ day talks about union of a man who is father and a woman who plays the role of a mother in home. In Gay parents’ day, this notion cannot work. Moreover, we have been hearing examples of single parents too. But in those cases the facts are obvious where the single parent does not have a choice to do anything about it.
It is recommended by News World Wide to have two separate days for celebrating biological parents’ day and gay parents’ day.

It was the same day when an angry exchange of words took place between George Anthony and Casey Anthony’s lawyer Jose Baez. It was when he made comments that recommended that George could be alleged for the death of 2 year old Caylee.
George stated that it was the most difficult thing for him to accept that he did not have a grand-daughter. “I just decided that was the time for me to get away from all this, to spend time with Caylee..I didn’t want to be in this world any more,’ he said recollecting how, one month after Caylee’s remains were found, he attempted to commit suicide.
Having decided to take his life, George went to a motel in Daytona Beach and consumed pills and alcohol before writing a suicide note and bidding goodbye to family and friends.
“I still have those feelings every once in a while, even today … If it wouldn’t have been for law enforcement, I wouldn’t be here today,” he said.
The defense tried to bring George’s suicide attempt as a proof to his involvement in Caylee’s death. Caylee died accidentally in the family pool, but George covered it up is defense stand in this case. His suicide attempt was triggered by the feeling of guilt, according to the defense.
George Anthony persuasively denied the statement and all such suggestions and tried hard to clear his name. “How dare you, sir, try to tell me I did something differently to what I did? … It had nothing to do with guilt or innocence or anything like that …” he said.

Avastin: a harmful drug for women
June 30, 2011
News Worldwide
Food and Drug Administration panel Wednesday took a major step towards ending the use of best-selling drug Avastin to treat advanced breast cancer in the United States, despite complaints from confused patients, and the company producing the drug.
Spiritual Six of the FDA advisory committee unanimously that the drug was damaging to women than it helps. The FDA Official Margaret A. Hamburg has made a final decision, but the agency commissioners usually follow the recommendations of the Advisory Group.
The fate of the drug for breast cancer has been closely monitored by patients, oncologists, advocates for the health of women, responsible for health policies, politicians and the pharmaceutical industry.
The case has provoked strong reactions from supporters of easier access to new treatments and critics fear that rationing of health care. It is also considered one of the most visible evidence of scientific medicine led public protests ring. Finally, clinical trials do not support pledged at the start of the drug for the treatment of breast cancer.

I think everyone wanted to succeed Avastin, but the reality is that these studies do not support that hope, said Natalie Compagni Portis representing patients in the panel.
If the FDA removes Avastin is approved to treat breast cancer, the agent will be available for other cancers, allowing doctors to prescribe it “off label” for patients with breast cancer. But the decision is likely to ask insurers to stop paying for the drug – which costs about $ 88 000 per year per patient – for the treatment of breast cancer.. The breast cancer patients also lose a program sponsored by the manufacturer of the drug , Genentech, which caps the annual cost of about $ 57,000 for women who earn less than $ 100,000 a year.
A terrible tragedy happened, said Frank Burroughs, Abigail, and the Alliance for better access to drug development, which is one of the groups that has pressed to maintain the FDA approval of Avastin, because it is beneficial for some patients.
But the decision was welcomed by others, including several large groups of breast cancer advocacy and experts said it was important for the Agency to base its decisions on scientific evidence, not emotional appeals, especially when lives are at stake and control of health spending is crucial if the country’s economy.

Now we need to focus and resources on drugs that will really make a difference for women with breast cancer. Avastin is not, said Fran Visco of the National Breast Cancer Coalition.
I think it’s great that they are willing to make the call lasts, said H. Gilbert Welch is a Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.
The FDA is not expected to recognize the costs of drug approval, and officials stressed that the price was irrelevant. But come amid an ongoing debate in National Review Obama’s health care, the struggle of Avastin has become entangled in the fight politically sensitive medical costs and effectiveness.

Federal Reserve doubles the fees
June 30, 2011
News Worldwide
The Federal Reserve delivered a joke punchline on Wednesday, a year of lobbying blitz that has raged on ATM fees.
In the midst of a heavy pressure on Wall Street, the Fed has almost doubled the amount that gives banks the opportunity to charge for retailers and consumers with a new regulation in effect at the same time to release the whole class card transactions debt, the rule altogether.
Payment by sliding a debate dominated the Senate for months, with almost all U.S. retail banks backs fought on Capitol Hill. In recent years Wall Street Reform Bill requires the Fed to write a rule that limits magnetic cards for payment, that banks charge retailers a privilege to accept plastic.
The central bank had originally proposed 12-cent limit such charges in December after the Fed survey of banks found that the average cost of processing debit transactions was 7 cents, with a stroke average of 4 cents. 12-cent cap would leave the banks’ profit margin is about 70 percent of debit cards is based on median costs, but there was a reduction of almost 75 percent from the average current fees to grab more than 44 cents for each transaction.

Wall Street has been pressure on the Fed throughout the year to review the rule, and on Wednesday the pressure paid off: The central bank raised the ceiling on the fees proposed to slip to 21 cents, plus 0, 05 percent of the amount of the transaction, and 1 cent to cover the cost of protection against fraud. All told, the Fed said it will allow banks to charge a maximum of 24 cents per transaction on average.
It is actually higher than the average amount that dealers pay for the current sweep that require customers to enter the personal identification number – PIN sweeps the importance of effectively exempt from new legislation. According to the Fed study, in December the banks are charging an average of 56 cents for debit card transactions, which require a customer to sign the consent, compared with 23 cents in taxes PIN safer.
While the cost per acquisition seems low, representing billions of dollars each month. According to The Nilson Report, an industry publication, the banks had 16 billion in 2009 on charges of magnetic card, debit card, with half of the total circulating only 10 banking giants.

Fed also said the state will not take effect until 1 October instead of July 21, when the regulation was originally scheduled to be completed. The extra month of higher slip fees would be much better for the benefit of bank shareholders 2011: Wall Street scores $ 1.35 billion for each month that the rules are delayed, the Nilson Report found. Since the new rules almost drag reducing costs by half, overtime is a gift of about $ 1.5 billion for the banks.
