Absolute power and tolerance
January 4, 2010
Fidel Castro of Cuba, Jamal Abdul Nasser of Egypt, Hitler from Germany, Mussolini of Italy, Stalin from USSR and many more are found in the chapters of history that have exercised absolute power. History is full of references with such individualistic efforts thereby cleansing the society from the evils that have contributed towards destabilizing and hampering injustice through the use of absolute power in various forms and combinations. Though some of them have not achieved to be recognized as super powers, economic giants but still they are narrated in history for there worth mentioning evil or heroic era of exercising absolute power with minimum and maximum support.
Pakistan with a short history after partition has a long tale thereby usage of absolute power has encroached in the operation for most of the time in different governments that have baton to fix Pakistan ending with there end or wealth of the nation. One must not doubt the intentions of any leader or dictator in this respect because the graph of social sector grooming downwards has too witnessed an increase in the graph of uncompleted maturation projects. The maturation projects remained incomplete for cynical reasons varying from inadequate recourses to inappropriate strategic planning’s. Historical perceptions, identity crises, dual standards of education and many more have been primary challenges in Pakistan and all absolute power holders have found them a mean to grasp the control of plane but with no flying skills.
Not only these factors have challenged absolute authority’s power but some external factors too have had there unnecessary roles engaged in politics of Pakistan. A bleeding wound for a super power during bipolarity causing its disintegration unfortunately has the longest border with Pakistan vigorously affecting Pakistan’s economy and infesting its security parameter since long. Amid encountering Afghanistan factor, champion of strategic planning is found engaged under influence of another super power. While supporting its war on terror his absolute power turns into coalition of the willing. The coalition of willing was then dependent for support from the western world in order to prolong its rule any way as a result of defiance. Unable to distinguish or accept one’s diminishing popularity he had to conduct the general elections and in doing so the absolute power was found in face of distrust the entire nation had for him.
The implementing priorities has been talked for long in Pakistan and after eight years of continuous unfortunate incidents taking place especially in year 2007 when a bombardment of weak links emerged with the general elections viewed as a pre-poll rigged one; results brought an end to all pre poll allegations and negative apprehensions. One must appreciate the bold stance taken by absolute power in Pakistan. During the campaigning season the indigenous assumptions and ground realities only supported the opposition parties’ statements of an Anarchic situation in Pakistan. And now the elected parties must work towards the maturation of Pakistan and prohibit acting in a stereotypical ways making us a laughing stock and black humor for rest of the world.
Well said by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto that, ‘tolerance is not the monopoly of any religion’. Propagating and humiliating any religion on the basis of an individual or community’s act is intolerance in itself. Provoking public sentiments is a larger sin and sign of intolerance when a religion, culture or historical heritage is targeted for gaining power and subjugating others.
