In breaking entertainment news today we include news about Mike Portnoy who has been announced to fill in for their former drummer Jimmy after his sudden death. On February 17, 2010, Avenged sevenfold announced that Portnoy will be filling in for their former drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, who passed away in December.
Mike Portnoy was known to be Sullivan’s all time favorite drummer, and has been quoted saying, “It would be an honor and, without question, that’s what Jim would have wanted.” Portnoy will join Avenged sevenfold in the studio over the next few months in order to record their upcoming album, which will be in Sullivan’s memory. The passing of Avenged Sevenfold drummer James “The Rev� Sullivan left many fans of the band wondering what would happen next regarding their new album. It turns out that A7X will go on with the new record and make it a fitting tribute for their fallen band mate.
The band will have Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy playing drums on the new album. Portnoy was specifically asked to fill in since he was The Rev’s favorite drummer. “I want our fans to know that with Jimmy in our hearts, our journey to record has officially begun. Jimmy helped leave this world an amazing gift and now it’s our job to make sure to deliver that gift to our fans� said Mike

Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted. Mike Portnoy has won 23 awards from the Modern Drummer magazine.
