The creation of heaven and earth

Jewish religion – In the beginning God created heaven and earth. The earth was ormless and desolate, and darkness covered the surface of the ocean; the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. God said: `Let there be light.’ And there was light. God saw
that the light was good, and he separated the light from the
iarkness. He named the light `day’, and the darkness `night’.
3vening passed and morning came. That was the first day.
God said: `Let there be a dome to divide the waters in
wo.’ So God made a dome, separating the water below it
rom the water above it. He named the dome `sky’. Evening
Dassed and morning came. That was the second day.
God said: `Let the water under the sky be gathered into
Dne place, and let dry ground appear,’ And it was so. God
:lamed the dry ground `land’ and the waters `seas’. And he
was pleased with what he saw. Then he said: `Let the land
?roduce all kinds of plants, those that bear grain and those
:hat bear fruit.’ And it was done. So the land produced all
kinds of plants, and God was pleased with what he saw.
Evening passed and morning came. That was the third day.
God said: `Let lights appear in the sky to separate day from night, and to mark the seasons, days and years. They will shine in the sky to give light to the earth.’ He made the two larger lights, the sun and moon, and he also made the stars. God was pleased with what he saw. Evening passed and morning came. That was the fourth day.
