Jewish religion God said: `Let the waters teem with living things, and let
birds fly across the sky.’ So God fashioned the great monsters
and all the fish that live in the sea; and he made the birds that
fly in the air. He was pleased with what he saw. Evening
passed and morning came. That was the fifth day.
God said: `Let the land produce all kinds of animal,
domestic and wild, large and small.’ And it was so. God was
pleased with what he saw. Then he said: `Now we shall make
human beings in our own image, to resemble us. They shall
rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the
animals that move on the land.’ So God created human be-
ings, fashioning them like himself. He made them male and
female, blessed them, and said: ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill
the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea, the
birds of the air, and the animals that move on the land. I have
provided you with every kind of grain and fruit to eat; and
for the animals and birds I have provided all sorts of green
plants.’ And it was so.
God saw all that he had made, and was very pleased.
Evening passed and morning came. That was the sixth day.
By the seventh day God had completed his work, and he
rested. He blessed the seventh day and made it holy.
