The Right to Live
December 17, 2009
As, the judiciary has held the evil of NRO from the throat so that the beneficiaries may cough-up the benefits, people at large seem least bothered about it though the decision was the talk of the town and from a cart pusher to a entrepreneur did chat about it.
The fundamental problems of the people of the Pakistan are yet to be taken up by any forum be it judiciary, parliament or socio-political parties. Generations have passed since independence and have grown and seen the same problem haunting and taunting us to a extend that we believe that this is our fate to be at the mercy of merciless leaders who have only one agenda to rule by any means at the cost of the fundamental rights of the people.
By fundamental rights I do not mean the right given to the citizens of developed countries or the rights that are professed by the human rights commissions but the very very basic rights. Please for God sake by right to live the idea of education, Basic health facilities, sanitation, speedy justice, equality should not even pass from the outskirts of our mind.
Today I asked a daily wager do you know that NRO has been declared null and void and all the corrupt will face criminal charges. He replied anxiously, oh really! Will I get sugar at cheaper prices now? A few wiser beings in the street stated that what heaven they would raise with it as 170 million will still die to get sugar, flour, edible oil, few dreamed to buy cheap vegetables. Other section of the laymen relatively having better financial condition (read as just having enough not to die) ironically, asked would this verdict make us cook our food on Gas under the light of an Electric bulb. The poorest of all asked me if this decision would fetch water to their locality.
The right to live is completely different in nature and overwhelming unknown phenomena to our ruling elite. This requires ruling class to foster institutions to foresee the requirements for 25 years in advance and industrialize the country to meet that future demand simply by keeping in view the birth rate of Pakistan.
Unfortunately, the exact opposite is being done and has been done since decades. For instance the present setup is striving hard to get over with load shedding of electricity but has failed to visualize that every year the demand is increasing and there will be no end to it unless surplus electric is produced and further projects are initiated to produce even more energy resource for further generations. Here the equation is so simple for our short sighted leaders. They are trying to arrange few kilos of food for feeding a baby elephant without realizing this animal soon would definitely become of a size where tons and tons will be required for feeding.
Since 60 years our right to live has been manipulated, deprived, devastated or otherwise looted and plundered in the name of democracy or Islam or in the name of justice or accountability as every ruler thought for his rule to be more important than the right of living of the masses of Pakistan. The people in the corridors of legislation, executive and judiciary and at the helm of affairs of Pakistan have always thought that the true functionality of their respective department would serve as a real bench mark for the beginning or attainment of the right of living of the people of Pakistan but all have failed miserably rather have defaced and degraded what was actually required by the people of the land of the pure. I mean water, flour, edibles oil, cheap vegetables, Gas, electricity.
