PPP at Crossroads
December 23, 2009
The curse of NRO has finally fallen on the PPP led government and has opened a Pandora box for further political wrangling which could see a more intense politically inspired revenge games in and outside court rooms.
The irony of the fact is that the applicant against the legal status of NRO was none other than a founder member of PPP Dr. Mubashir Hassan who has time and again criticized the shaheed Benazir Bhutto for deviating from main ideology of His legendary father Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. He has based his Argument on the historic fact that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Accepted going to Gallows rather than entering into any deal with the dictators. He further said that accepting Ghulam Ishaq Khan as president and other people on key post was the dictation she took from the then establishment in turn ruined the basic Ideology of PPP. He further said that he does not know Zardari as he is a stranger and never was a political worker or a party leader.
This may not be the story of a single former PPP stalwart but the crisis draining of intellectual and ideologically correct PPP workers and supporters is happening day by day. They are of the opinion that Zardari has lead PPP in a way that was never the hallmark of its legendary leaders. This can be obviously seen on the political stage that leaders of the stature of Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Safdar Abbasi, Nahid Khan, and Anwar Beig were sidelined while incompetent leaders were brought forward and installed on key public sector positions which further exacerbated the PPP public ratings. None of them was learned enough to face the media and in a knee jerk reaction floated bundles of lies to win the talk show contest. The minister of Water and Power can be taken as an example. The minister did every thing in his capacity to deceive the nation that Load shading will be over by December 2009 but failed to deliver and in the process damaged the reputation of PPP beyond repair. Likewise, the present teams of political players of Elected Government are least concerned about future of their Party and are more interested in protecting presidency rather than rallying around the more popular Prime Minister.
This disharmony amongst PPP loyalist and Zardari loyalist is the result of absence of Leadership, and lack of consultative behavior and patience in Asif Ali Zardari who is known for having very low temperament for the voices of dissent in His Party. On many occasions it has been reported that in party meetings he not even lets some one opposing to complete his argument. Without being biased, Zardari has established by his acts and words that he is not a trustworthy person to be at the helm of affairs of both PPP and Pakistan. The critical fact is that no dictator was able to break the spirit of PPP even under harshest of circumstance in 35 years but the present Leadership may dent the spirit of PPP what gallows, jails, executions failed to do so.
