As per sources in the NFL, the New England Patriots have signed former New York Jets Shaun Ellis with a one-year contract pending approval of a physical examination.

Ellis, 6’5 “290 lbs lineman, who has worked in New England last week, has spent his entire career with the Jets. A former first round patch of Tennessee in the 2000 draft by the NFL, was selected in New York with the selection they received from New England, as compensation for hiring Bill Belichick Patriots head coach. Now it seems that Belichick will be able to guide the player who used to be “negotiated” for.

Ellis is a selection of two to the Pro Bowl, and has 552 tackles, 72 sacks and 13 forced fumbles 1 INT in his career of 11 years in the NFL.
Ellis is very familiar to Patriots have hurt with a big bag of two playoff games last year in Foxboro, as the Jets won in advance to the championship game of the AFC.
Ellis is a very versatile musician and can play end in either a 3-4 or 4-3 defense. With the Patriots looking more and more as they play a 4-3 or a 3-4 hybrid movement is a good sign. A front four could potentially consist of three players with Pro Bowl on their resume with Vince Wilfork and Albert Haynesworth in the middle and Ellis and possibly second year player Jermaine Cunningham and Mark Anderson plays the other end.
Since becoming a starter in 2001, Ellis has lost only six games in his career. The Jets were willing to put Ellis back, but head coach Rex Ryan said he would be a shorter game and the computer only to offer the veteran minimum of $ 910 000.
Patriots terms of the contract were not disclosed.
