What is Guy Fawkes Day/Bonfire Night? Who was Guy Fawkes?

October 4, 2011

News Worldwide — The Guy Fawkes Day also known as Bonfire Night is celebrated all over the UK in memory of the failed gunpowder plot and execution of Guy Fawkes on November 5th each year.

Who was Guy Fawkes?

Guy Fawkes also known as Guido Fawkes was born, a second child among four to Edward Fawkes and Edith, around on April 13th 1570 in Stonegate, York, North Yorkshire, England. In October 1591 he joined Catholic Spain to fight the Dutch Republic in Dutch War of Independence. He was recommended for Captaincy in 1603 after serving as a junior officer having fought quite well at the siege of Calais in 1596.

What is the Gunpowder Plot?

After fruitless efforts to gain Spanish support for a Catholic uprising in England, Guy Fawkes became a member of a group of English Catholics led by Robert Catesby in 1604 who conspired to assassinate King James I, successor of Queen Elizabeth I. Queen Elizabeth I was much ostracized among the Catholics of England. She was head of the Church of England and a protestant. She victimized the Catholics and executed them on a large scale. The English Catholics had a secret pact with James that he shall not victimize them as the queen does if he came in to power. Celebrations broke out throughout catholic communities when queen died. As the nearest in succession of Queen Elizabeth James succeeded the throne.

Much like politicians of today’s world King James I didn’t keep his word. Even if he intended to do so he couldn’t have had the support of protestant parliament. As a consequence King James I had put himself in danger of being assassinated which the Catholics did attempt. This attempt of assassination is known as The Gunpowder Plot.

The group of thirteen young men who hatched the plot and hired Guy Fawkes to execute their plan had rented a cellar that happened to be under the House of Lords (a portion of the Parliament House back then). They placed 36 barrels of gunpowder under concealed under piles of wood. The plan was to blow up the building when King James I, his family and all protestant members of Parliament would be present at the session on November 5th. As the plotters sought wider support it became practically impossible to keep it a secret. The word got out but the plotters continued with their plan anyways. Guy Fawkes, oblivious of a search operation of the building, got apprehended along the explosives. According to historians he signed his confession after being tortured at Tower of London. Although he went on trial but his pleas were ignored and he was charged with treason. Eventually he got publicly executed on January 31, 1606. His fellow plotters met the same fate more or less. The other plotters were hunted down and shot or executed.

So Why Bonfire?

Bonfires were lit across the streets on the day Guy Fawkes proclaimed as the most notorious traitor today was executed. Known as Guy Fawkes Day Celebration This tradition of had followed since then. It is still not clear whether the celebrations are meant for King James I who was saved because someone betrayed the plotters or for honoring the attempt of Guy Fawkes to assassinate the protestant King James I.Copyright © 2011

September 16, 2011

News world wide – In the wake of recent floods in Pakistan, which are thought to be more devastating than the previous year floods in Pakistan, the Prime Minister has cancelled his visit to United States.

News world wide, news worldwide, worldwide, world wide, news, news world, world news, world news today, Pakistan, prime minister yusuf raza gillani, floods, dengue, dengue virus

The visit aimed to attend the General Assembly session. Pakistan’s leadership has been highly accused to ignore
the victims and devastation caused by floods in Pakistan. Just few days back it was reported that the President and PM of Pakistan both were out of country, when the people were in high need of government support. It is also said by many media and other sources that the money provided to the government of Pakistan to help and assist flood victims is most of the time used for personal benefits. It is for this reason that many relief and humanitarian agencies do not feel confident about giving aid to the government of Pakistan.

Though, this move made by PM of Pakistan is a positive step but still more needs to be done.
It is reported that the PM will visit the flood hit areas of Pakistan tomorrow and will look into the relief activities.

The most recent floods in Pakistan were initially triggered by monsoon rains. Reports suggest that more than 230 people are dead while the floods destroyed or damaged 1.2 million houses and flooded 4.5 million acres (1.8 million hectares) since late last month, officials and Western aid groups say.

The statistics of devastation and damage is in hundreds of millions yet the government does not seem willing enough to help the affected ones. For instance; more than 300,000 people have been moved to shelters while more than 800,000 families hit by last year’s floods are still homeless.

There are high risks of potential disease spread. Many reports state that many people do not find clean drinking water and many are spending night under open sky.

Apart from all this, Dengue a dangerous form of mosquito disease is also spreading. Many people have been reported affected from Dengue while others have died because of Dengue.

Blog del Narco targeted; bodies hanging from bridge in Mexico send a message

September 15, 2011

News worldwide – Social media users who condemn drug union actions besides the Mexican border received a cruel threat this week: Two distorted bodies hanging like cuts of meat from a pedestrian bridge.

Bodies hanging from bridge in Mexico, bodies hanging from bridge in Mexico are warning to social media users, Blog del Narco, world news, world news today, Al Rojo Vivo forum, Zetas cartel, Nuevo Laredo, News world wide, news worldwide, worldwide, world wide, news, news world

A woman was hogtied and eviscerated, her guts swollen from three deep cuts on her stomach. Aggressors left her topless, hanging by her feet and hands from a bridge in the border city of Nuevo Laredo.

A man in blood next to her was dangling by his hands, his right shoulder detached so extremely the bone was visible.

Marks left near the bodies acknowledged the pair, both seemingly in their early 20s, were killed for placing insults of drug union activities on a social media.

One of the signs found near the body said that you better should stop posting those funny things on social media or better pay attention to what they just did as they he/she will get you.

The horrible act sent a scary note at a time when internet articles and posts have turned out to be the most effective and loudest voices recording violence in Mexico. It is reported that the threat has been so phenomenal that many are now scared to even talk about it.

Mexico’s infamously cruel drug mobs frequently hang victims from bridges and highway overpasses.

A number of bloggers and writers who have been focusing on the subject of trafficking have been threatened since long. But these bodies hanging from the Mexico Bridge have targeted social media for the first time.

Investigator Ricardo Mancillas Castillo believes that such sign of torture has been witnessed for the first time against internet related people while he has been seeing the torture and other signs of violence in drug related violence.

For now Police did not find any witness and it is apparently impossible to find any one that will identify any of the attackers.

Almost 2 days have passed by yet the bodies have not been claimed by anyone and they remain unidentified.
Because of their absent identities, it is also impossible to link if they actually did post anything on the internet as mostly people do not use their real names to post such things online.

They were signed “Z,” a likely mention for the Zetas cartel, which functions in the zone.
Blog del Narco is a website that works solely with news linked to drug violence in Mexico. Its maker remains unidentified.

On the Al Rojo Vivo forum, where people can make unnamed tips, one person wrote: “Don’t be afraid to denounce. It’s very difficult for them to find out who denounced. They only want to scare society.”
“Enough! If we shut up today, we will have lost the ground that we have gained. This is the time to show what we are made of,” the owner of the @QuestoyQuelotro Twitter account wrote.

Sweden’s SWAT team arrests 4 terror suspects

September 11, 2011

News Worldwide – 4 people are arrested in Sweden on suspicion of having some relations and plots of terrorism. They were arrested by SWAT team in Gothenburg.

Shortly before midnight, an art gallery was evacuated in central Gothenburg. There was a party held in the gallery before the evacuation took place. The police cordon was detached at 6 am local time.

Though no comments have been made by officials on the arrests now that ho they are and to which organization are they related to, but one can assume that the terror plot made in an art gallery during a party was meant to hurt a large group of people.

The terror plot can also be related to the 9/11 date. There have been a number of reports that mention and talk about security threats in the wake of 9/11 1oth anniversary.

There are reports that mention that Swedish police has asked the civic leaders and Swedish Muslim community to help prevent terrorism. There is also news that states that Muslim community of Sweden has been asked by officials to stay away from terrorist activities.
Now the later statement does give clues that the recent plot has some linage with Muslim world. On the other had it is not the real version of Islam as the Swedish police has asked the Muslim community to have a deeper understanding of Islam that talks all about peace and humanity.

Four Years Old Chinese Girl Drives Car On Busy Road

September 5, 2011

News worldwide – Call it another wonder of china (their economy) or breaking a law (like that of human rights issues), internet has its focus on this four year girl who is named Jia Zheng. The video uploaded on YouTube is two minutes long and shows how calmly and almost perfectly Jia controls the car wheel. Well the video was informative in the sense that I came to know that China also has left hand cars.

Jia is not just driving on any road, but it seems to be a busy road of China where she also overtakes cars very professionally.

In the video Jia at one moment turns in the wrong lane and then turns the wheel cautiously to change in the correct lane
and continues her drive.

Later, someone in the video asks Jia to stop the car and let father drive. The man who supposedly is Jia’s daddy jumps into the driving seat and drives ahead.

The man can be viewed removing a tool from under the seat that the young girl used to control the accelerator and brake.
So this was not just the wheel that Jia was in control of but she was also taking control of brakes and accelerator of the car. One might wonder where the police was. This part can be included in law thing but one cannot deny the fact that it certainly is one of the most amazing young kids videos.

Winter – The season of Suicide bombings arrives

September 4, 2011

News worldwideWinter the season of suicide bombings in Pakistan

The role of local dress helping suicide bomber achieve their targets in Pakistan

The role of security check posts

It is an open secret that winter is the season of suicide bombings in Pakistan. The local dress, which includes men’s shawl, is a big, warm scarf, helping suicide bomber achieve their target easily. The local men in NWFP and tribal areas cover themselves with a shawl in winter season.

Since the shawl covers the entire posture of body, it has been used to cover suicide jackets by suicide bombers. A suicide bomber finds it very easy to reach his target by walking towards it by simply covering the body with the shawl. This has been one reason that Peshawar check posts have had been highly targeted in previous winters.

In order to counter or pre-empt this move used by suicide bomber, now one can see sigh boards that are placed few yards away from check posts. The boards display a message that asks walking individuals and motorcycle rider to remove their shawls while walking or moving towards the check posts.

One can also find four to five speed breakers before reaching the check posts. Moreover, large cement breaks and other methods are used to secure the check posts. These precautions may reduce the intensity of suicide bombing but do not guarantee no casualties and injuries. The amount of explosives used within explosive vest is what actually decides how many people are the target and what is the intension of suicide bomber. Either he wants to cause terror or sever damage in terms of casualties and injuries.

It is important to add here that in a provincial capital Peshawar there many check posts and all located at very busy road like university road, swati patak, city area, saddar, Mall road and many more. These check posts certainly have affected and increased the intensity of local traffic in busy times including school and college times.

To my surprise there are no valid images or photos of check posts in Peshawar on Google images.

Condoleezza Rice was among Gaddafi’s Love and Treasures

August 26, 2011

Condoleezza Rice a name known as American former Secretary of States will now be known as part of Gaddafi treasure too.
A strange photograph album with photos of Condoleezza Rice has been found at the compound of Colonel Gaddafi. Among many other things and luxuries found at Gaddafi compound, Condoleezza Rice album surprised many.

Colonel Gaddafi had formerly talked about at a serious appreciation for Condoleezza Rice. In a 2007 interview Gaddafi hinted that then-President George W. Bush’s highest diplomat exercised substantial impact in the Arab world.

‘I support my darling black African woman,’ he said at the time. ‘I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders. … Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. … I love her very much. I admire her, and I’m proud of her, because she’s a black woman of African origin.’

The next year, Gaddafi and Rice had a chance to meet when the secretary of state paid a historic visit to Libya – one that made steps toward normalizing relations after the United States went decades without an ambassador in Tripoli.
Condoleezza stated amid the trip that the U.S. does not have any permanent enemies.’

Gaddafi greeted Rice in his home. It was the same home which was once bombarded by President Ronald Reagan. Once again, he constantly addressed Rice – known as ‘Condi’ to her friends – as ‘Leezza’.

During the visit, he offered Rice with a diamond ring, a lute, a locket with an engraved likeness of himself inside and an inscribed edition of The Green Book, a personal political manifesto that explains his ‘Third Universal Theory for a new democratic society’. Together, the haul was worth $212,000.

3 years later, at Gaddafi’s compound, Libyan rebels found the photo book. Rebels leafed over the album after finding it as they searched through Gadhafi’s Bab al-Aziziya compound. Rice did not directly reply to appeals for comment about the discovery of the photos. In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland was also asked about the album.

‘I don’t need to see the photos,’ she said. ‘But bizarre and creepy are good adjectives to describe much of Gadhafi’s behavior. So (it) doesn’t surprise me. It’s deeply bizarre and deeply creepy, though, if it is as you described.’
