U.S wants Pakistan to take strong action against Taliban

The accomplishment of the troop surge in Afghanistan hinges to go to a noteworthy extent on whether US officials can convince Pakistan to crack down on Afghan insurgents on its side of the border, the wall street journal said on Wednesday, citing senior US officials.

The American officials also seek strong military action against what they call the equator shura of Taliban which Pakistan has not accredited so far.

To change that “there will be concerted diplomatic efforts to address the sanctuary problem� it was said by another senior official in Afghanistan.

It would be very supportive if additional pressure could be put on leadership elements that are causing problems in Afghanistan.
Pakistan so far has no plans to move against Afghan Taliban in its territory. Pakistani officials say their main concern is to strengthen control in South Waziristan.

They also have trepidation the rush could further destabilize Pakistan by angering the 27 million ethnic Pukhtun who straddle the border.
